- Be the Leader:
During the 9 months of pregnancy, you get plenty of time to correct or smooth out any unwanted habits of your canine friend. Also, make sure to establish yourself as the pack leader.
- Positive Energy Only:
Because you are pregnant you may get many mood swings such as anxiety & excitement. Make sure to not have your Dog feel the same as they tend to mirror your behaviour.
- Baby’s scent Introduction:
Before bringing the baby home, bring an item from hospital perhaps that has the baby’s scent. Let your dog sniff it for a couple of Initial days before your baby’s arrival.
- Create boundaries around the nursery:
Establish off-limits nursery sections. Eventually, you can allow your dog to sniff or explore under your supervision.
- Exercise before Introduction:
Take your dog for a long walk after which he will be drained off all that extra built up energy. Firstly, allow your dog to come to a calm submissive state and then sniff the baby from a safe distance. Slowly the dog could be allowed to be near the baby often If he shows obvious calm & friendly response.
- Supervise the Interaction always:
Teach your baby not to bother/tease your dog. Start the lesson of mutual respect at an early stage.
- Give attention to the Dog as well:
Make sure to still give all the care to your dog after the arrival of a newborn. Go on with the regular evening walks & built a positive leadership.
- Child’s safety is first:
If you are not 100% confident about your training & leadership, prioritize the safety of your baby. Although do have believed that your dog must trust you, yet a child’s safety always comes first. Thus always super wise their interactions.
